Some people smile at you on day one and stab you on day five.
I learned this the hard way in college.
I met a few people in my first year.
We clicked fast.
Classes, canteen runs, late night talks.
And of course, a WhatsApp group.
Everything felt normal at first.
Then second year hit.
Masks slipped.
Small lies showed up.
Favors stopped coming back.
My wins started bothering them.
I saw annoyance when I scored better.
I heard sweet words in front of me and bitterness behind my back.
Tiny betrayals showed up everywhere.
Notes.
Plans.
Opportunities.
All because I was growing faster than them.
Then third year arrived.
They made a new WhatsApp group.
A fresh one.
Without me.
The old one just went silent.
No notes.
No assignments.
Nothing.
And they still acted normal every day.
Like nothing happened.
I did not care.
They are still at zero.
I am growing.
And we are just 30 days away from 2026.
A new year.
A new level.
A new circle.
Here is what that season taught me:
→ Do not trust people just because they sit next to you.
→ Pay attention to how they act when you win.
→ Distance is cheaper than betrayal.
Trust is earned.
Not handed out like a candy on the first day of class .
